Submitted Profile: William Pitt was born in Vienna with an insatiable curiosity and wanderlust. It took him to many parts of the globe. When people ask him how many countries he has been to, he has to start counting and usually forgets one or two.
During that time, he worked in dozens of professions. He has been a sailor in the merchant navy, a waiter in a Swiss resort, an insurance salesman, a representative of a merchant banker, an actor, a director and a sound engineer in a theatre in Munich.
Finally, he settled in Sydney and made Australia his home about thirty years ago.
Although English is his second language, he has worked as a journalist and an editor of a magazine (which led to many funny remarks by native writers). He has written for the stage, radio and television (amongst others for a programme teaching English).
He has been a lecturer in creative writing and tourism. For nine years he toured Australia and New Zealand with his puppet company. He also performed in Austrian schools over three years and was the Australian representative at the Vienna Festival.
He now writes poetry, prose and works as a translator for a German publisher.
He loves people and life and is concerned about the future of the planet.
He has two daughters from his first marriage.
