So you have a news release - now what? Below are listed some 100,000 or more news­papers, conv­eniently divided into direct­ories, that may assist you in the dissem­ination of your release. As many of these will re­gard your press re­lease as a news item, it may be advert­ised Free of Charge. Others may re­spond with an invit­ation to fol­low up with paid advert­ising. Your re­sponse to this must be at your dis­cretion. When dis­sem­inating your press re­lease, be se­lec­tive. Blank­et spam­ming has nega­tive con­seq­uenc­es and in many count­ries is il­legal. We also dis­courage it on moral and eth­ical grounds. It is bet­ter and more court­eous to select specif­ic tar­gets and con­tact them with a per­son­alised letter. It is not wise to send a sep­arate cover letter and then later on send your press re­lease, as larger com­panies may have trouble con­necting the two. It is wiser to send a per­son­alised letter and enclose the press re­lease as an attach­ment or in the body of the letter. If you have ac­cess to a fax mach­ine or if you install a fax sender on your com­puter (such as the free Copy and Fax Utility* or a free pro­gramme called StupidFax*) then you may prefer to send the re­lease this way.
